Celebrating National Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month!

Non-Fiction Monthly Display 

According to the National Hispanic Heritage Month website of the Library of Congress, “each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America”. The national observation was enacted into law on August 1988.

Library Orientation

We are having a great start to the school year at Jobe Middle School! All students had the opportunity to visit the library as a class for the annual Library Orientation. They learned basic information about the library’s procedures, resources, and services.  

Students had the opportunity to browse and check out some of their favorite books. They also received a library handout with a description of how to search the online library catalog and other reliable research databases provided by library and district, all which may be found on the library’s website.

Students and teachers may now access Gale databases on the palm of their hands by downloading the app now available for iPhone (iPod Touch, iPad) and Android. You will need the password (hint- our mascot).

2011 Texas Lone Star Reading List

Mavericks are currently reading this year’s Lone Star Reading List. All books are available at Jobe Library. Students have the opportunity to exchange a book review for a lone star at Jobe Library. Ten stars will get them into in this year’s Reading (and popcorn) Social.

Welcome Back Mavericks!

Today marks the third year that our school library opened its doors to students and teachers at Linda Jobe Middle School. And it's going to be another successful year for our readers!

Interesting facts about our library:

-Our growing collection consists of over 4,000 holdings! It includes print books, eBooks, audio books, videos, magazines, databases and they may be access on campus and off campus!

-Our library received 6 additional student computers!

-The MISD Education Foundation awarded the library two grants to purchase additional library books!

-New Gale Databases will be available to students and teachers this school year!

-Our teachers are eager to use the new ActivInspire tools!

-The library hours are 8:15 a.m.  to 4:15 p.m.
